when does the photographer stop photographing to help the subject

I have always felt that emotional tug of war while capturing pain of people. Should I help them? Or should I capitalise on it? Or should I just do my job?

poverty-porn as they call it, for me, is capturing those people in the slums who are struggling to make ends meet. Is it right to capture that homeless man on the streets with untidy hairs and a torn cloth. Can I help them? Will documenting them help them? Or will it just help me with my portfolio, awards and recognition.
