translate complex concepts into understandable language

Jon Flynn’s journey—from filmmaking in southern Africa to leading AI sales at Google—kind of reaffirms something I’ve always felt: that bridging worlds is a superpower. He moved from creative production to tech, then into product development, and eventually business. Now he’s working in Google in the AI Sales leadership role.

What stood out the most was how he credited his growth to one underrated skill: the ability to simplify complex concepts into something human and relatable. That storytelling muscle—breaking down the technical into something people feel—is gold.

He specifically values curiosity and articulation in his team. And honestly, if I had to pick two core skills to mention in a CV or resume for a role like that—where you're not the engineer, but you're translating what the engineers are building into something the world can use and understand—it would be those. Curiosity to keep learning and connecting the dots. Articulation to turn those dots into meaning.

That’s the real work, especially in big tech where the product might be complex, but the communication can’t be.
