The myth of "bravery" in advertising.

As Roland Barthes argued, myths operate as a form of ideology, transforming historical, contingent practices into seemingly “natural” truths. Advertising loves to mythologize its “brave ideas.”

But we don’t risk lives. We don’t face prison, death penalties, or drones flying to our homes for a copy or a strategy. At least most of us don’t, especially not those shouting that their ideas are “braver than anything else.” Journalists do. Firefighters do. Activists do.

The world is full of truly brave people. And they do not work in adland.
